* As the script would dictate, General Sherman’s group was sacked from all directions, alternative route after alternative route failed to make a dent in the Confederate’s grip on the battle and the stronghold of the Chickasaw Bluffs. Over 1,100 Union army soldiers lost their lives, as opposed to less then 200 casualties on the Confederate side.

* General Ulysses S. Grant sought to re-route the entire attack and directed every resource – including all 60,000 soldiers – to attack the Confederates from the east instead of the north.
