Kariba Dam in Zimbabwe illustrates another example of a poorly planned and constructed structure which lead to a disastrous situation. Having started construction a mere months before rain season in Zimbabwe, the planners did not anticipate the sudden rise in water levels which lead to the abrupt abandonment of the project. The end result of the rise in water levels lead to massive flooding and destruction of several farms.

• Another incident involving a poorly planned construction of a dam was the Mat Mark Dam in Switzerland. Despite warnings of an imminent avalanche, builders proceeded to go on with the plan – and the results were deadly. 89 were killed, the last of the bodies were found six months after the avalanche when the snow finally melted.
