1946 Juan Peron was elected as president of Argentina by over two million voters.
- He won the election because of his popular appeal, which was in part due to his super star wife Eva Peron. However, his use of torture, censorship, exile, and aggression was hidden.
-After his death in 1974 political violence erupted between the right wing supporters and the left wing supporters who were a terrorist group.
-In 1976, Peron’s third wife Isabel Peron was deposed by General Jorge Videla. Videla who lead a fascist military group became a de facto president.
-With Videla in power his regime began a dirty war hidden behind conventional maneuvers. During this time over 25,000 Argentinean people were kidnapped, tortured and murdered. These victims became known as the “desaparecidos” in English the disappeared.
