rice producing region in India has had a history of famine, but in 1943, the problem took on all new proportions. With the price of rice having risen, many were left in a position where they were not able to afford rice which was their staple food. During that time span, a whopping one and a half million people died from starvation.

Despite the over abundance of food and food producing resources in some countries, other countries find it difficult to eat enough to maintain their health. The other issue discussed is that despite the advanced means of transportation in todays world, adequate food and supplies have not reached people in areas of dire need.
