the 1950’s, London had a particularly polluted atmosphere, in large part to the constant outpour of sulfur and carbon from the city’s factories, homes, and power plants.

• In December of 1952, a dense fog had overcome London. This fog would go on to mix with the polluted cocktail of chemicals being spewed into the London skies to mix for a deadly plague-like cloud which hovered over London for approximately five days. The resulting fog created a deadly blanket of sorts which claimed the lives of roughly 4,000 people during the spell.

• With advancements in the area of power sources, coal has taken a backseat to cars and other sorts of vehicles as the main culprit for contributing to the polluted environment.
