the Second World War, the European Jews wanted to return to the Promised Land of Palestine. As the public felt guilty about the Holocaust and was constantly reminded of the horrors from Nazi Germany, they were inclined to let the Jews return to Palestine. The Holy Land had been fought over for years, but with the immigration of the Jews back in Palestine, the Arab Israeli wars escalated and the Promised Land became soaked in blood. Conflict over the State of Israel brought the Arab world a common enemy. Oil, the region's greatest asset gave the Arabs muscle and Islamic fundamentalism gave them the will to fight.
- In 1979 increasing concerns about Arab Nationalism led the Soviets to invade Afghanistan. Strategists were confident in a Soviet victory, however, it proved a humiliation for the once mighty Red Army.
