- After being captured, he escaped again by carving a phony pistol out of soap.
- He was shot in the back by the FBI, but there was no hard evidence that the man that was killed and John Dillinger were actually the same person. Only a handful of people within the FBI, including J. Edgar Hoover knew the truth.
