• Lee, paying dividends immediately with some crafty maneuvering of the Confederate army along the southern ports, re-positioned his men so that they would be stationed in more discrete areas such as creeks and rivers, instead of on the coast – where they would be easy to attack. The new strategy would give them an inside advantage, allowing them a chance at the Union soldiers as they tried to make headway into the mainland.
