• In addition to calling on the states of the Union to produce troops to suppress the Confederate movement, on April 18th, 1861 – President Lincoln ordered a Naval blockade of the Confederacy in all southern ports. These two developments were key instigators in inciting a movement amongst the Southern states, as emotions ran high – more states decided to jump aboard the Confederate bandwagon.

• Richmond, VA would become the capital and stronghold for the Confederacy, with Jefferson Davis becoming the President.
