quiet period was upon the Civil War, as there had been relative inactivity by the Confederate army – a development that raised the suspicions of the Union army and General McClellan.

• As fresh troops from the North congregated for battle and the Union received a fresh flow of aid and supplies, General McClellan was seen conferencing with members of the Pinkerton Service – an undercover detective agency. Reportedly, McClellan had hired Pinkerton agents to spy on Confederate strongholds to gather information. Reports indicated the Confederate army was planning an attack on Washington D.C., and, used their silence and inactivity as a ploy.

• Meanwhile, the Confederates were experiencing difficulty keeping up with the supply of aid, as well as weapons production. The financial and industrial edge of the North was beginning to shine brighter than ever.
