Ground Attack Aircraft

  by Staff Editor

You can run but you cannot hide from the pin-point precision and devastating destructive force of today’s ground attack aircraft.

Different missions call for different types of delivery, and modern ground-pounders come in all manner of shapes and sizes. Ultra-sophisticated radar-evading bombers can fly half-way around the world, slip into enemy territory undetected and be on their way back home before the enemy’s aware of the attack. Aided by computers and advanced electronics to ease the workload on the crew, fighter aircraft have become more versatile, with many now performing dual-role missions, often with just a single pilot. Even older, less sophisticated aircraft pack a powerful punch thanks to new smart munitions aided by satellite navigation to locate and destroy their targets.

Land battles and naval engagements aren’t fought by tanks and ships alone. Success on the modern battlefield increasingly depends on strike aircraft and bombers delivering their awesome firepower from above.
